EMS

What is EMS?

EMS (‘Electrical Muscle Stimulation’) is a training method that uses electrical impulses to control muscle contraction and build strength and conditioning. It is a fast and effective way to build and tone muscle through 20-minute workouts tailored to your personal fitness goals.

In conventional exercise, muscles are controlled via electrical signals from the brain that cause contraction and movement. EMS delivers electrical impulses through a suit to the skin surface above the muscles, causing them to contract and reaching deep muscle tissue that is difficult to activate through conventional exercise. Muscles can be targeted more intensively and unlike weight training, EMS places no additional strain on joints or tendons, so it is an effective way to build strength after an injury.

History

EMS has been used in rehabilitative medicine since the 1960s and various scientific studies have shown that it can preserve and build muscle mass and even accelerate recovery after injury by facilitating nerve regeneration.

It has been used by doctors, physiotherapists and athletes all over the world for more than 50 years to repair and strengthen muscles and increase sport performance. Athletes, models and actors are increasingly using EMS as a fast and effective way to build strength and conditioning.

EMS Training

To train with EMS you will be fitted with a suit that conducts electrical impulses to your muscles. When the workout begins, your trainer will lead you through a series of exercises to stimulate the major muscle groups. The program typically consists of two repeating phases of four seconds each - four seconds with the electrical impulse triggering the muscles to contract, followed by four seconds of relaxation. Your trainer will demonstrate the exercises, correct your movements if needed and adjust the intensity according to your fitness level and goals.

Benefits

Results vary depending on your level of fitness but you should feel improvements within four sessions and the longer you use EMS, the better the results will be. Benefits include:

Builds muscle - Delivers impulses directly to muscles to stimulate deep tissue
Tones muscle - Combined with cardio, EMS can tone muscles, burn fat and reduce cellulite
Helps recovery - EMS doesn’t put pressure on joints and can help build strength after an injury
Improves posture - EMS incorporates exercises for the back and core to improve posture
Saves time - 20 minutes of EMS can achieve results equivalent to 90 minutes training.
